Field guide № 02 — Shops, cafés & restaurants

A website your customers can order from — and you can run yourself.

Marketplace apps take a third of every order. DIY site builders stall the moment you need something real. And the last developer disappeared after launch. We build fast sites and ordering for independent shops, hand you the counter controls, and stay on the end of a phone.

For butchers, bakers, restaurants, cafés, and specialist retailers across Aotearoa — from single counters to multi-location operations.

§ 01 — What we build

From shop window
to back room.

Everything an independent shop needs online, built once, built properly, and handed over so you can run it without a developer on call.

Sites that get found

Fast, local-SEO-tuned pages that put you on the map when someone nearby searches for what you sell — and load before they lose patience.

Order-ahead & click-and-collect

Customers order from their phone, you get the order in the back room, and their goods are ready when they walk in. No marketplace commission.

Menus & content you update yourself

Prices, hours, specials — changed by whoever is behind the counter, not by emailing a developer and waiting a week.

Back-office tools

Admin apps for orders, stock, and customers when the business outgrows a notebook by the till — including Storedash, our Android app that puts the whole back office on your phone.

The back office comes documented, not just handed over — read the admin manual. Every screen in plain language, including what each setting really does and what cannot be undone. It is the same text your staff get behind the ? button on their own screens.

And it fits in your pocket: Storedash, our Android companion app, buzzes your phone the moment an order lands, prints it at the counter, and keeps stock, hours, and takings a tap away — get it on Google Play.

§ 02 — Work in this field

Shops you can
order from today.

Alongside these, we've built a Turkish bakery's site and a back-office admin app for shop owners — same bed, same care.

§ 04 — Common questions

Asked at the
counter.

What exactly do I own, and what do you own?

Your domain is registered in your name. Your content, your products, your photos and your customer and order data are yours, and you can take an export of them whenever you ask. The site itself runs on the Salix shop platform — the same engine behind the other shops on this page — and we host it, patch it and keep it running. That is the trade that makes a $3,500 build possible instead of a $15,000 one: you are sharing the cost of an engine that already works, rather than paying to have one written from scratch. What we will not tell you is that another developer could take the platform over tomorrow, because they could not. If you ever leave, you keep the domain, the content and a full data export, and we will help you move — but you would be rebuilding the shopfront somewhere else, not carrying ours away. If owning the code outright matters more to you than the price, say so at the quote stage and we will price that build honestly instead.

What are the ongoing costs?

Your domain renewal, which you pay directly to the registrar, and a hosting and platform fee to us that covers the servers, backups, security patching and certificate renewals for as long as the site runs with us. The Keeper retainer sits on top of that and is the optional part — it buys you small changes, seasonal updates and a person on email rather than a queue. We will put both numbers in writing in the quote; nothing here is metered or usage-billed, so the monthly figure does not move when you have a good month.

Can you move us off Wix, Squarespace, or an old WordPress site?

Yes, and we do it without losing your Google ranking — existing pages get properly redirected, and your content comes across cleanly. This is one of the most common jobs we do.

How long does it take?

A Shopfront build is usually live in about three weeks from when we have your content. Ordering builds take longer — typically five to seven weeks — because we test the order flow with your actual counter workflow before launch.

Do you integrate with delivery platforms?

We can, but we will usually first show you what direct ordering saves you. Marketplace commissions of 30% often fund the entire build within months. Where a platform still makes sense, we wire it in.

Tell us about
your shop.

We read every enquiry ourselves and reply within two working days. Quick chats, long briefs, half-formed ideas — all welcome.

Send a short note about what you sell, where you are, and what's not working with your current setup — even if the answer is 'we don't have one yet'. We'll reply with a few questions and a straight answer on fit and price.

Call or text — you get Vakkas, not a queue.
