Field guide № 07 — Flyers, print & social video

A flyer in the window and a reel on the phone — for the price of an evening.

Most shops do not need a new website. They need something to put in the window this month, something to post that does not look like it was made in a phone app, and a Google listing that says the right hours. Those are small jobs, they are priced like small jobs, and they are finished in days.

For butchers, bakers, cafés, restaurants and specialist retailers across Aotearoa — including shops we have never built anything else for.

§ 01 — What we make

Small work,
done properly.

Four things, each finished to a standard the printer or the platform will actually accept — which is where most cheap versions of this fall over.

Flyers built for the printer, not the screen

A5 at 300 dpi with proper bleed and crop marks, so the print shop takes the file without a phone call and nothing important gets trimmed off. You get three directions to choose from, not one take-it-or-leave-it.

Short video that works with the sound off

Fifteen to thirty seconds, cut for a phone held vertically, captioned throughout, with a voice-over and a music bed. Delivered in both 4:5 and 9:16 so the same piece works in a feed and in stories.

A QR code that goes to your own ordering page

Not to a marketplace listing that charges you a third. Printed at a size that actually scans from the distance a person stands from a shop window.

Your own photography, made usable

Counter photos taken on a phone, colour-corrected and cropped properly. If there is nothing usable, we will say so rather than hide it behind a filter.

§ 02 — Work in this field

Made for shops
down the road.

Both of these are Auckland shops we also build for, so the flyer and the reel point at their own ordering pages rather than a marketplace listing.

Running a menu that changes with the season? The Season is one new reel every month for $180 NZD/mo on a twelve-month arrangement. It is the only recurring thing on this page and it only makes sense if your offer genuinely moves — otherwise buy one and run it.

§ 04 — How it runs

Starts with a free
look at what you have.

Three steps, and the first one costs nothing and carries no obligation.

№ 01 — Free

The Site Check

Send us your web address and we will open it, measure it, and write back with what we actually found — whether the certificate is valid, whether the page loads, whether your phone number and hours are on it, whether Google still lists you correctly. We report only what a machine can check, so nothing in it is an opinion dressed up as a finding. It costs nothing, there is no pitch attached, and plenty of people read it and do nothing. That is a fine outcome.

№ 02 — Days, not weeks

We make the thing

You send photos, your logo if you have one, and the offer you want to run. We come back with three flyer directions or a first cut of the video. Two rounds of changes are in the price; we have never needed a third.

№ 03 — Yours

You keep the files

Print-ready PDFs, the video in both crops, and the source images. Take them to any printer or hand them to anyone. There is no platform to stay subscribed to and nothing stops working if you never speak to us again.

§ 05 — Common questions

Asked across
the counter.

Do I have to have a website with you?

No. This is the one thing on this site that stands entirely on its own — a flyer and a reel are useful to a shop with a Facebook page and nothing else. If you do have a site with us the QR code points at your ordering page instead of a social profile, which is better, but it is not a condition.

What do you need from me?

Photos of the food or the shop, your logo if you have one, and a sentence about what you want people to do — order ahead, come in on Tuesdays, try the new thing. Phone photos are fine and are usually better than stock images. If what you send genuinely will not print at A5, we will tell you before we start rather than after you have paid.

How long does it take?

A flyer is usually three to four working days from when we have your photos. A reel is about a week, because the voice-over and the music take a pass of their own. Neither is a project with a kickoff meeting.

Can I get one every month?

Yes — that is The Season, $180 a month for one new reel a month on a twelve-month arrangement. It suits a place with a menu that actually changes. If your offer is the same in June as it was in January, buy one reel and run it; we will say so rather than sell you a subscription you do not need.

Who owns the finished files?

You do, outright, including the print-ready sources. The one thing we do not transfer is the licence to the music bed, which is licensed to us for use in your piece — you can run the video anywhere, you just cannot lift the music out of it for something else. Any voice-over is generated, not a hired actor, so there is no performer’s residual sitting behind it.

Will this get me more customers?

We do not know, and anyone who tells you a number is guessing. What we will claim is narrower and checkable: the file will print correctly, the QR code will resolve to your page, the video will be readable with the sound off, and your Google listing will say the right hours. Whether people walk in is a question about your shop and your offer, and it is not ours to promise.

§ 06 — Contact

Send us your
web address.

We read every enquiry ourselves and reply within two working days. Quick chats, long briefs, half-formed ideas — all welcome.

Even if all you want is the free Site Check. Tell us your shop and your web address — or your Facebook page if that is what you have — and we will write back with what we found and what a flyer or a reel would cost. No call required, and there is no version of this where you get chased.

Phone
Call or text — you get Vakkas, not a queue.
